The São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (Osesp) has unveiled its 2026 season under Music Director and Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer, opening on March 5 with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Bach’s Fantasy and Fugue in C minor in a Villa-Lobos transcription, and Stockhausen’s renowned masterpiece, Gruppen, presented in an immersive, large-scale orchestral setup at Sala São Paulo.
Reflecting on the season, Thierry Fischer says:
“In 2026, we want every concert to be a singular experience, and for everyone who crosses our doors to feel part of something greater — a community that believes in art as a force for transformation, connecting times, places, and emotions.”
The season will feature a complete Mendelssohn symphony cycle and continues Fischer’s Mahler Cycle with the Fourth and Ninth Symphonies. Fischer will personally lead nine programs of the total of 27 Osesp concerts in the 2026 season. Other highlights include works by Alberto Nepomuceno, Almeida Prado, as well as new co-commissions by Andrew Norman.
More than 60 guest artists will perform with Osesp, including Brazilians such as pianist Sonia Rubinsky and guitarist Fabio Zanon, as well as international artists like conductors Richard Egarr, Roberto González-Monjas, Jun Märkl, and Marin Alsop, among others. The orchestra will also welcome outstanding soloists including Kirill Gerstein (piano), Hera Hyesang Park (soprano), Antoine Tamestit (viola), Tai Murray (violin), and Nelson Goerner (piano). The young Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich will be Artist in Residence this season.
