Utah Symphony to tour Utah’s ‘Mighty Five’ National Parks
15 April, 2014Thierry and the Utah Symphony Orchestra will be touring the famous “Mighty Five” National Parks of Southern Utah from August 11-17, 2014. The planned Parks Tour is an immense cultural project, combining the free, open-air concerts in the midst of Utah’s red rock country with chamber music, opera performances and educational activities. The tour is the first in a series of events leading up to Utah Symphony’s 75th anniversary in 2015-16.
There will be four concerts taking place in Teasdale, near Capitol Reef National Park; at Red Cliffs Lodge in Moab, near Arches and Canyonlands; at Ruby’s Inn, just outside Bryce Canyon; and in Springdale, at the entrance of Zion.
Thierry will conduct the free concerts in a programme combining works by Shostakovich, Puccini, Gershwin, Strauss, Bizet and Dvorak. To view the full programme, click here.
Speaking about the open-air concerts, Thierry, an outdoor enthusiast, says they are a way to “combine the different energies we are surrounded by. Nature creates sound, and sounds are nature.”
